Event Description: The Flexner Seminar is an opportunity for advanced discussion with Sanjay Subrahmanyam about his November 2nd Flexner Lecture: “Courtly Competition.” Given on Monday, November 2, “Courtly Competition.” will deal with how Muslim and non-Muslim states in South Asia dealt with one other as court-systems in a situation of mutual borrowing as well as intense competition, which sometimes became violent conflict. When taken together, Subrahmanyam’s three lectures will attempt to provide a broad-ranging reflection on the worlds of early modern Islam, Counter-Reformation Catholicism, Protestantism and a newly emergent ‘Hindu’ sphere.
